1985 Suzuki Cavalcade LX
The ride...
Hello,
My name is Tom, a 1985 Suzuki Cavalcade LX.
I was born in Japan in February 1985 and transported by freighter to California, USA where I was used for the rest of the year as a demonstration model bike by various motorcycle magazines in the USA.
In January 1986 I became officially owned by a kind gentleman in Vancouver, Canada who looked after me very well for the next 13 years. Some years I was not used at all and every winter was always put into storage.
My owner retired in 1999 and I was sold to a young couple in the city who had plans for me as a touring bike to travel the highways of BC and into the USA. Alas a change of plans came about and I was sold to my present owner Guy Follett in the summer of 1999.
He took me to the UK in May 2002 where I was used as daily transport to and from work a distance of about 30 miles a day. I also went on various trips in England and generally had a fairly easy time of it. In April 2005 I was on an airplane again from Gatwick where I flew non-stop back to Vancouver, B.C. Since that time I have been parked in a garage, lucky me, in North Vancouver and again am being used sparingly as the owner also has a Toyota Camry car.
The Suzuki Cavalcade LX was the most luxurious touring motorcycle Suzuki ever built. Standard features included electronic cruise control, AM / FM stereo cassette with front speakers and balance controls. (The radio unit is removable.) The bike also has an on-board air compressor and computer controlled front to back levelling. The passenger seat has an adjustable air pouch in the seat and two pouches in the back. These airbags can be adjusted on the road by the push of a button. The back rest is the highest of any touring motorcycle on the road today. There is also a built in intercom system. The Suzuki Cavalcade LX is powered by a 1400 cc water-cooled V-4 engine.
There are Air intakes visible at the top portion of the lower fairing, as well as an adjustable lower air intake that shoots cool air directly onto the feet during warm days and warm air during the winter. Visible on the bottom right hand side of the trunk are the six buttons that control the passenger seat air bags. On the left side are the controls for the passenger to adjust the volume and channel on the radio. The centre LCD panel gives you various warning indicators, as well as a gear indicator. Like most touring bikes, this motorcycle has a 5-speed transmission. Colour is two-tone Brown.
